Where we play
I have created a google map to show our various locations where we can play. I am embedding it here too:
We live in Lucmayan but have wheels so we can drive anywhere, preferably not farther than Jordan in the center of the island. I bought a bunch of sticks to get us started, but long term players are eventually expected to get their own stick.
In case we are playing somewhere without much of a mobile signal for internet, you can also consider downloading map.me. It is a free app that does not require internet but only GPS, which is everywhere. In google maps you can click on the location where we will be playing and then copypaste the GPS location into maps.me and save it, to make sure you can find us. I will NOT be answering any messages or calls while playing. If you would like to be notified of when and where we will be playing next, besides the info that I post on our facebook page and group, I will be sending out notifications via Telegram: https://t.me/guimarashockey. Messenger no longer allows such broadcasts of information and I do not want to start a group chat where everyone can post – simple announcements only.
Hockey rules
You can check out this site for general rules, but for safety and fun we’ll follow our own rules. My idea is that every player should bring two t-shirts: one dark and one white or very light. Once we start playing and it is apparent that one team is much stronger than the other, we can switch players around a bit to even things up and make it more fun and a close game. In which case those players would change t-shirts so everyone can see which team they are on.
Another option is, at the start of each game, the two best players are considered the captains of their own team. After a coin toss to decide who starts, the captains take turns choosing which players will play on their team. This way the make-up of teams changes for every game and can make things more interesting, and why it is important to have two options of t-shirts so everyone can easily see who is on their team.
Basic rules:
- You must never lift the end of your stick above your waste, because it is dangerous to other players. This can become a penalty.
- You must never use the stick to slash at the body of another player, such as their ankles.
- Contrary to normal rules of hockey, there will be no checking but follow closer to basketball rules. Play nice and don’t smash into one another.
- Not sure if there will be any discernable blue line on the volleyball court but no icing, which is when one player waits close to the opposing goalie and waits for one of his players to pass him/her the ball from the other side of the rink/court. In this case we can more closely follow soccer rules, where you cannot pass to a player who is ahead of you, but we’ll have to play this by ear.
Let’s have some fun!
